What You Can Expect Step one: The Interview The initial meeting focuses on the client's needs and listening to his/her investment concerns. This includes discussing past investment experience and current investment needs. The implications leads to creative investment and financial/estate planning solutions. Step two: The Questionnaire As part of the interview, we will review background information and complete a profile. This portion of the questionnaire is critical to the success of the relationship. It gauges the time horizon, financial goals, risk tolerance and implied investment objective of the client. Providing recent investment statements and, if needed, recent tax returns and trust documents also aids in understanding the client's investment needs. Step three: Financial Planning The questionnaire will frequently uncover wealth management concerns in the areas of retirement, estate, income tax, educational or insurance planning. Our specialists use sophisticated planning tools to address these needs. It is important to note that as specialized investment and wealth management professionals, we do not offer tax, estate planning or insurance services/products. This allows us to focus solely on offering unbiased advice that is in the best interest of our clients. Step four: Investment Objective The investment objective is chosen after careful consideration and discussion between the client and the portfolio manager. It is the investment objective that drives the asset allocation or stock/bond/cash mixture and determines the majority of portfolio returns. The importance of this step cannot be overstated. Our portfolio managers bring their wealth of education and experience to bear in aiding the client to formulate their objective. If needed, an Investment Policy Statement is drafted to further specify investment guidelines. Step five: Execution The investment plan is implemented over an appropriate time period, waiting for advantageous entry points into individual securities and dollar cost averaging into the market.
